Corporation was founded by Mr. Henry Shapiro in 1980. Henry Shapiro was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a young man, Henry Shapiro strived through the hardship of surviving air strikes, confronting hunger, facing death and being severely wounded during World War II. This horrible experience and suffering in his youth has become the main motivation and a lifetime goal – to contribute his experience and knowledge to the healthcare industry and improve the quality of human lives. Being exposed to people with eye ailments in poverty-stricken areas fueled his inspiration on seeking a life-long profession in the ophthalmology field. Henry’s inventive mind, organizational, and hands-on skills are the assets that made his dreams come true. As a visionary, Henry Shapiro understood the significance of developing strong relationships with physicians and surgeons and has dedicated years of his specialized life working meticulously with highly experienced medical professionals to the develop products that enable surgeons to successfully perform advanced minimally invasive surgery. Henry Shapiro has over 40 years experience in the medical device industry. As many American pioneers, Henry started the company in a garage and turned it into a successful and a worldwide renowned ISO certified manufacturer of micro-surgical medical instruments. Under his leadership, H.S. International Corporation has developed a variety of high quality ophthalmic surgical instruments that have been widely used by leading doctors throughout the world. Henry holds several US and International patents, including the famous Shapiro cutter. Henry Shapiro has dedicated his entire professional life to the surgical ophthalmology field. His immense interaction within the industry has given him an admirable and well respected reputation. Prior to establishing H.S. international, Mr. Shapiro launched his career with Production Machining Co. and Cooper Vision, Inc, where he devoted over 10 years of his career to challenging engineering positions. Mr. Shapiro holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic Institute in St Petersburg, Russia.
